catchup ケチャップ
ketchupだけではなく、catchupとも書くらしい。

a cupboard 食器棚、収納、クローゼットなど
cupboardは、食器棚に限定せず、扉のある収納を広く指すものらしい。
Wikipediaによれば、アメリカで言うところのクローゼットと書いてある。

しかも発音が[ˈkʌbəd]カバド。カップボードとは言ってくれない。

と言っているのを
- If you are looking for a covered, the large white one upstairs... (カバー付きのを探しているのなら、二階に大きいのがある)
などと勘違いしてしまった。forは完全に幻聴。
聞こえていなくても勝手に脳で補正してしまうので、知っている言葉を増やすのはとても大事。

s6.1.2(で「daytime running lampがposition lampで代用されるときはFig3の光度要件に従う」とある)にもかかわらず、daytime running lampがposition lampで代用され、かつその投影面積が200平方センチ以下のとき、s5.1にの評価はFig1に従ってよい
という例外を認める。

carbohydrate 炭水化物
ローカーボとかロカボとか。低炭水化物はlow-carb.
ある食材やら栄養素を取り上げて、xxxが体に良いというような話はそこらで目にする。逆にこれを食べたら死ぬという食材や栄養素を誰か取り上げないものだろうか。きっと米、パン、小麦、炭水化物あたりが毒になる。

call out sick 病欠の電話をすること
call in sickも同じ意味。
Regionality(地域性)についてこんな分布図をみつけた。NY近辺ではcall out sick、それ以外はcall in sickの方が一般的らしい。経験的にはcall out sickの方が聞く気がする。
