NPRを聴いていたら"major US automakers halt production on Juneteenth..."という話があった。
Juneteenthという単語を知らなかったので調べてみると、1865年6月19日、テキサス州で奴隷制度の解消を宣言したことに由来する日だそうだ。

これを調べるついでで、portmanteauという言葉も知った。ポートマントー。
かつての同僚が"ginormous"という言葉が好きで、"これはgiganticとenormousを合わせた言葉なのだ"と言っていたのを思い出した。
