今朝ラジオを聴いていたら、"stem the tie against COVID-19..."という表現が出てきた。
「流れに掉さす」という言葉が浮かびつつ辞書で調べてみたら、to stop something from continuing ということで、思った通り。

 日本語は、日常的な範囲で話すのと聞くのが出来て、山とか川とか簡単な感じは読み書きできるくらい。

「日本人が使うカタカナ英語に初めて接した時『この人ははっきり話そうとしてくれているのだろう。でもアクセントが強すぎて何言っているかよくわからない』と思った。
自分がそれなりに日本語を話せるようになった今『しばしば英語はカタカナで書き起こされていて、それを読むとああいう話し方になるんだな』と理解した」と。
「threeを『ス・リ・イ』といわれてもわからないな」と。
