ファッション用語でラギッドというのがあるそうで、英語由来で、Raggedから来ているらしい。
ギッは何処から来たのだろう。何故ラグドやラガドにならなかったのだろう。geというスペルが関係しているのか。英語のlong eのイー[i:]の音を連想しているのか。
raggedのeの音はschwaであってeではない。数えたことはないが、schwaの母音の字によって音の差があると思っている人が大勢いるような気がするし、自分もそう教わったような気すらする。
phonicsやらschwaやらで色々調べると、schwaはschwaで一つの音と言う立場もあれば、schwaの括りの中でも違いがあるというような話も出てくる。
経験上では、対アメリカ人ではschwaは一つの音で問題になったことはないし、少なくともphonicsを教わって育ったネイティブはschwaはschwaで一つと教えてくれた。そもそもIPAで一つの記号にされているのだから。
実用性を考えるなら、強い母音や音節など、他の部分を優先した方がよく効く。
